CSUteach: Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) and Multi-Age Teacher Licensure

Looking to become a confident, qualified middle or high school teacher? The CSUteach Program at Cleveland State University offers a dynamic, clinically based path to teacher licensure—designed for those who want to lead in the classroom and make a lasting difference in students’ lives.

Whether you’re earning your undergraduate degree or returning for post-baccalaureate training, CSUteach prepares you to teach in grades 7–12 or K–12 with a strong foundation in subject-area content, culturally responsive instruction, and more than 630 hours of real classroom experience.

What You’ll Learn

• How to Teach with Confidence and Purpose
  Learn how to design, deliver, and assess instruction that meets the developmental and academic needs of middle and high school learners.
• How to Lead in Real Classrooms—Starting Early
  From your first semester, you’ll be teaching in local classrooms—gaining experience, building relationships, and developing your teaching voice.
• How to Connect Content with Community
  With an emphasis on reflection, clinical practice, and cultural responsiveness, CSUteach prepares teachers who are thoughtful, adaptive, and committed to student success.

Admissions Criteria and Procedures

To join CSUteach, students must: 

• Declare an education licensure
• Have a 2.75+ GPA
• Complete 30+ college credit hours
• Earn a C or better in college-level Math and English 

Students may take 200-level CSUteach courses before meeting these requirements or declaring the licensure.

Program Pathways

Undergraduate Students

Earn a bachelor’s degree in your content area plus a teaching license in just four years.

  • Mathematics/Physics 

Post-Baccalaureate Students

Already have a degree? Earn your teaching license in two years and be ready for licensure in grades 7–12 or K–12.
