School of Education and Counseling Hosts International Fellow Yogendra Chapagain
The School of Education and Counseling (SEC) at Cleveland State University’s (CSU) Levin College of Public Affairs and Education welcomed international fellow Yogendra Chapagain of Nepal to campus for a four-week visit from Sept. 15 through Oct. 9, 2026.
Yogendra joined CSU through the U.S. Department of State's Professional Fellows Program for Governance and Society, coordinated locally by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs. The program brings emerging leaders from around the world to the U.S. for hands-on professional fellowship experiences.
Yogendra shared his expectations for the fellowship.
“I’m eager to learn about U.S. education policies, educator development systems, and best practices in teacher support,” said Yogendra. “I’m also looking forward to sharing insights from my work in Nepal, particularly in the areas of early-grade learning, curriculum development, and teacher professional development. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain fresh ideas, experience new feelings, and collaborate with many people.”
Yogendra is engaged in Nepal’s education development sector, where he leads education and governance initiatives as an education, research and development expert. With more than 12 years of experience in education policy, teacher professional development, curriculum planning, and early-grade learning, he has played a key role in advancing education reform efforts across Nepal.
SEC Director and Math Education Professor Dr. Joanne Goodell discussed the opportunities for professional exchange through the fellowship.
“As part of his fellowship experience, we hope to provide opportunities for Yogendra to meet with faculty and staff across the SEC to gain a broad understanding of our education programs and initiatives,” said Goodell. “In addition to participating in project-based work, these conversations will help enrich his understanding of our work while fostering valuable international exchange.”
