Sample Doctoral Studies SPECIALIZATIONS - COUNSELING

Program Overview

The Counseling specialization requires as a prerequisite a master's degree in counseling or a closely related field. It prepares individuals for leadership positions in community agencies, school or college counseling, and student personnel settings and provides the course work for Clinical Counselor licensure, if the student is a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Admission Requirements

Fall Application Deadline: Last Monday in February.

Prerequisites: Master's Degree.

GRE Requirement: Required.

Letters of Recommendation: Required and a statement of purpose along with the resume.

NOTE(S):

*These or equivalent courses may be required for the Professional Clinical Counselor License.

PREREQUISITES:

The counseling specialty is built on a master's degree in counseling. Students entering the program with degrees completed some time ago may need additional prerequisites if they plan to seek the PCC license upon degree completion. Students with master's degrees not in counseling also must meet master's- level course work requirements for the PCC as a part of their Ph.D program.
