Innovative Program Generates Interest In the Health Care Profession

Innovative program generates interest in the Health Care profession.

CHAMPS (Careers in Health and Medical Professions) is an academically enriching and personally rewarding experience that introduces students to a wide variety of high-wage careers in health and medicine. Hands-on research experiences transform students into medical detectives, challenging them to explore health and disease using CSU's research laboratories, equipment, and resources. Students engage in shadowing experiences and other learning opportunities with CSU students & faculty, medical doctors, and other healthcare professionals in the area. Adult supervision is provided at all times.

The Health Career program is part of larger program to build awareness of health careers, knowledge in the sciences, readiness for college, and personal skills for the 21st century. We aim to offer four (4) follow up activities for all participants during the school year as well as offer ongoing summer institutes for three consecutive years for all the students. The committee will take the decision for the future program, at proper time considering availability of the resources. Our program is open to the students of Cleveland and suburb school districts, who have completed the 9th grade and is being offered at no cost through the generous support of the Kaiser Permanente Foundation and Martha Holden Jennings Foundation.
