Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Credit for Prior Learning Program

Formerly known as AAPLE (Assessment and Accreditation of Prior Learning Experience), The Maxine Goodman Levin School’s Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) program recognizes college-level learning gained through experience, training, and other life experiences via a portfolio.

Portfolio-based prior learning assessment awards academic credit for what students already know and can demonstrate. It allows you to earn academic credit for significant prior learning that can be applied to one of the undergraduate majors in the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs:

• Community Planning
• Environmental Studies
• Nonprofit Administration
• Organizational Leadership
• Public Policy and Management
• Public Safety Management

Credit for Prior Learning begins with a meeting with your advisor to determine if portfolio assessment is appropriate and which courses you may seek credit for.

You then register for UST 190, where you will learn how to demonstrate and document evidence of your college-level prior learning and construct a portfolio. 

Once completed, you will submit a portfolio for each course for which you request credit. Your portfolio will be evaluated against the learning outcomes of the requested courses by a member of the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Faculty. If approved, you will be charged a fee of $100 per credit hour. Upon payment, your approved credits will be sent to the Registrar for posting.
