Community Organizing Journal

Dr. Rob Kleidman Leads International Journal to Advance Community Organizing Scholarship

Published on

Dr. Rob Kleidman, Associate Professor, Criminology and Sociology at Levin College, has been a driving force behind the launch of the Community Organizing Journal (COJ)—a new publication dedicated to deepening the understanding and practice of community organizing.

COJ highlights the democratic and relational work that builds leadership, strengthens communities, and drives meaningful change. Because organizing takes many different forms across the world, the journal brings together scholars and practitioners to reflect on diverse traditions, approaches, and challenges in the field.

The inaugural issue of COJ, co-edited by Dr. Kleidman and Dr. Margaret Post of Clark University, explores the future of community organizing—what practices should endure, and what needs to evolve. It features contributions from scholar-practitioner teams across Europe, the United States, Australia, and Aotearoa New Zealand. The issue opens with an introduction by community organizers Alexandra Piñeros Shields and Jocelyn Vicente-Angeles, alongside a framing essay by Kleidman and Post.

Launching COJ was a three-year collaborative effort, and Levin College is proud to have supported this important initiative. The journal is now welcoming new submissions that align with its mission of fostering international dialogue on community organizing. More details on submissions can be found here.

Congratulations to Dr. Kleidman and his colleagues on this significant achievement!
