Levin College Selected to Host 2023 Summit for Civil Rights
The Levin College of Public Affairs and Education has been selected to host the 2023 Summit for Civil Rights, to be held on Thursday, September 28 and Friday, September 29, 2023. This is the fourth in a series of multi-racial, non-partisan, and intergenerational gatherings of some of the nation's top civil rights leaders in the field of organizing, labor, faith, academia, law, and elected office to respond to widening economic inequality and rising polarization that is putting our democracy at risk.
This year's Summit comes six decades after the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The Summit will reflect on the tremendous gains achieved for working people of all colors since 1963, while exploring action around the critical demands, still not met, for full and meaningful employment and an end to segregation in housing, jobs, and schools.
Dr. Roland V. Anglin, Dean and Professor at the Levin College, and Dr. Robert Kleidman, Associate Professor of Sociology at Levin, serve as key members of the Summit's national planning group and plan to include a large group of CSU faculty, staff, students, and community partners in planning, hosting, and participating in the event.
The event will bring to Cleveland a distinguished selection of presenters and panelists. Speakers at previous Summits include Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, the late Vice President Walter Mondale, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, National Education Association President Becky Pringle, NAACP President Derrick Johnson, and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison.
Additional details are forthcoming.
