Richard M. Perloff, PhD, Professor of Communication, Psychology, and Political Science, recently received two awards from the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists 2022 Ohio’s Best Journalism Contest. Perloff was honored with First Place Best Arts Award for his piece “The enduring magic of Stephen Sondheim”, honoring the legacy of the musical theater giant.  He also received Second Place Best Criticism/Editorial for his piece “Deserving of his lofty perch” written in support of the preservation of statues of historical figures. 

Dr. Perloff is a nationally known scholar of the psychology of media perceptions, persuasion, and political communication.  His book, The Dynamics of Persuasion: Communication and Attitudes in the 21st Century (7th edition), is a staple scholarly persuasion text. Perloff has also published feature articles on topics ranging from wheelchair basketball to young people's romance in Cleveland Scene and Cleveland Jewish News. His many opinion pieces on politics, media and history have appeared in The Plain Dealer; his letters to the editor on contemporary issues have appeared in The New York Times.
