A guidebook authored by Dr. Mark J. Salling, Senior Fellow and Research Associate at the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs, "Redistricting: A Guide for the GIS Community,” is now available on the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) website. The book includes a supplement on software packages by Blake Esselstyn, GISP, AICP, Principal at FrontWater, LLC and Mapfigure Consulting. The guide is intended to inspire and enable GIS practitioners to engage in an equitable and fair legislative boundary redistricting process at the state and local levels and offers guidance in identifying how to do that. The guide is also helpful for those involved in redistricting as employees of state legislatures, local governments, redistricting commissions, political parties, consulting firms, or nonprofit voting rights organizations.
