Remembering Tony Gutowski
The Levin College of Public Affairs and Education is saddened by the loss of alumnus Tony Gutowski (MSUS ’09, BA Urban Studies ’07), whose commitment to the school and its students left a lasting mark on the Levin community.
Tony remained closely connected to Levin well beyond his time as a student and was deeply invested in supporting those pursuing careers in public service.
“Tony was a strong supporter of the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs, especially through his work with the Columbus Seminar, of which he was also an alumnus,” said Dr. Meg Rubado, associate professor of urban studies. “He believed in helping students understand what public service looks like in practice, and he achieved this through his regular participation in Columbus Seminar panels and networking events. Tony’s interpersonal style was remarkably warm and magnetic; this made him instantly approachable and accessible to CSU students.”
Beyond his regular participation as a speaker in the Columbus Seminar course, Tony, in his professional role as Chief Government Relations and Business Development Officer at Akron Children's Hospital, helped secure sponsorships and expand access to the program and enrich the student experience.
Tony is remembered for his generosity, approachability, and belief in creating real opportunities for students and early career professionals. His legacy continues through the experiences he supported and the students whose paths he helped shape.
