Cleveland State University has appointed Sajit Zachariah as dean of the College of Education, effective Aug. 1. CSU President Ronald Berkman said Zachariah is a passionate leader who will inspire his colleagues and students. "We are grateful that Dr. Zachariah will bring his vision and skills to Cleveland State," Berkman said. "He is an experienced academic with a proven record of building partnerships with K-12 institutions."
Zachariah's recent research focused on building student competencies through university partnerships with K-12 schools. Berkman noted that this experience will directly benefit CSU's new Campus International School and its broader vision to support and serve the evolving educational needs of Northeast Ohio. "There are many similarities between the educational climates in Cleveland and Akron," Berkman said. "Bringing this expertise to CSU will help advance our goals to engage the University and our students with the community." Zachariah has spent most of his career at the University of Akron. Since 1991, he has progressed steadily through Akron's College of Education and Public Afairs– from instructor to assistant and associate professor and eventually to full professor. He later advanced to assistant and associate dean and has consulted for the Akron Public Schools.
