Representing Levin College in China

Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Dean Roland Anglin and Levin Associate Dean Bob Gleeson visited China recently to build partnerships with two universities. The first, Capital University of Economics and Business (CUEB), is located in Beijing; the second, Northeastern University, in Shenyang. Both universities have undergraduate and graduate programs similar to those offered by the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs. Possible partnerships center on promoting joint research in urban planning, public administration, and nonprofit management along with faculty and student exchanges. The trip was a follow-up to earlier visits by the two institutions to the College.

“I did not go to China with preconceived notions of the country. What I did find was a developed society where the scale of building and expanse is nothing that I could have imagined. We had productive conversations with our counterparts and look forward to working with them on what promises to be an exciting venture,” Dean Anglin said of the visit to China.

Associate Dean Gleeson agreed with that assessment. “The U.S. and China are the world’s two largest economies. And we have many, many differences. But we learned the faculty and students at both universities share many of the same core interests, including equity, social justice, economic transformation, city management, and environmental sustainability. We look forward to building on the conversations Dean Anglin and I started by engaging more faculty and students and becoming more meaningful partners with our colleagues in China.”
