STEMM EDUCATION CENTER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES:

The STEMM Education Center through its professional development programs strives to promote STEM activities within and outside the University to increase visibility of STEM at CSU and to the greater Northeast Ohio STEM community.

The Center offers a variety of Professional Development (PD) workshops for teachers in Northeast Ohio during the academic year as well as throughout the summer. Our efforts focus on enriching STEM teaching and learning in the classroom at both the subject-specific level and transdisciplinary practices across the disciplines.

Although we frequently create programs tailored to the needs of each district some of the PD that we offer include:

Project-Based Learning 101: This is an introductory-level program designed to introduce teachers to project-based instruction and the capstone/design process. The eight-session program identifies grade level objectives across curriculum, promotes collaboration between the subject areas and ultimately designs a grade-level capstone project ready for implementation.

Project-Based Learning 102: In this course we will further develop an approach to designing, implementing and evaluating project-based curricula and processes for PBL curriculum development that have emerged from collaboration with PBL practicing teachers and researchers.

Engineering is Elementary (EiE):  EiE workshops introduce you to engineering and show you how to foster student-centered, inquiry-based learning. Our workshops are designed to increase your knowledge of engineering, technology and the Engineering Design Process, introduce the EiE curriculum, explain the structure and format of EiE curriculum units and enhance to implement action of open-ended engineering design challenges for students.

Personalized Professional Development:  Contact the STEMM Center to discuss professional development based on your needs or request.

STEM Designation Assistance:   Through our professional development, we become your university partnership.   Through this partnership we will advise and guide your school through the STEM designation partnership.
