Join us on Monday, April 27, 2026, as Cleveland State University highlights our commitment as an Age‑Friendly University (AFU) and the global movement guided by the Ten Principles promoting lifelong learning, intergenerational engagement, and community partnership.
Our program will feature a keynote from nationally recognized gerontology scholar Dr. Nina Silverstein, followed by a regional leadership panel exploring What Age Friendly Means for Northeast Ohio and how we can collectively advance an age‑inclusive future.
This event is hosted by Cleveland State University's College of Health and the Levin College of Public Affairs and Education and supported by the W.B. Waetjen Endowed Urban Education Lecture Fund.
Keynote Speaker
Nina Silverstein
Nina M. Silverstein, PhD, is Professor Emeritus, Gerontology Department, University of Massachusetts Boston. Her career spans three decades, during which she has mentored hundreds of students, co-authored three books, and published many articles on the impact of dementia on home, community, institutional and acute care; community mobility; and on a broad range of issues in gerontology. Silverstein is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and has held leadership roles in that organization, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. She is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Transport & Health and serves on several other editorial boards. Currently, she is Principal-Investigator on research funded by the Next 50 Foundation exploring age-inclusivity in higher education (Photo credit: The Gerontology Institute, University of Massachusetts Boston.)
