Position: Plan Director

The Director of the Plan Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals will manage the Department's current planning, plan review, property subdivision and zoning enforcement processes, and will additionally help facilitate zoning and subdivision control ordinance revisions and long-range planning activities.
Interested applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Baccalaureate degree required, Planning field preferred. Master's Degree in Public Administration or related field preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possession of or ability to obtain certificate from the American Institute of Certified Planning.
Department software experience, including:
- ArcMap, In Design and Microsoft Office.
The ideal candidate possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience with planning and other professional land use and development environments, the ability to multitask, work under pressure, and work independently, technical savvy, and professionalism.

Position: Compost Ambassadors

The City of Cleveland was awarded a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to help the city expand drop-off residential composting locations, increase waste diversion and access to composting services, and provide subsidized monthly subscriptions to composting services to SNAP-eligible households. The City of Cleveland is hiring 17 Compost Ambassadors for 19 months to assist in the implementation of this grant. Through required training provided by the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District, Compost Ambassadors will become subject-matter experts in the basic science of composting and its environmental benefits. After completing training, each Compost Ambassador will be assigned a drop-off site. They will be asked to visit the site, work within their community to promote the program, and assist with registering participants. Ambassadors will be recruited from all wards/neighborhoods/communities across the City of Cleveland.
Compost Ambassadors will:
- Attend required training conducted by the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. There will be three (3) training sessions that will each be 3 hours long.
- Promote the composting program via co-hosting presentations with Rust Belt Riders, providing office hours at public spaces, social media when applicable, and attending other community events and meetings. Ambassadors will attend approximately two public engagement sessions/events to engage community members during each month.
- Assist in registering program participants.
- Visit Rust Belt Riders compost drop-off site, minimally twice per month. Complete regular checks and photo documentation of the compost drop-off sites.
- Have opportunities for continued growth and advancement.
Compensation:
- Ambassadors will receive a total stipend of $1,400.00 over 19 months, dispersed monthly in $120.00 payments.

Position: Climate and Environmental Justice Fellow

Under administrative direction, is responsible for planning and administering a specific project or program for a City department. Serves as the administrative supervisor on projects or programs. Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews activities of subordinate personnel. Monitors the project or program's operating budget and assists in the annual preparation of same. Designs, implements, and monitors procedures utilized in program evaluation. Develops and secures commitments from other City departments and agencies to provide services to program participants. Provides technical assistance or reviews program policies and procedures. Maintains current information and oversees the preparation of project status reports. Prepares financial and narrative reports and program applications. Communicates project/program status and information to municipal officials and/or public and private entities. May supervise employees assigned to the respective project. Performs other related duties as required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manages grant and clean energy projects with a commitment to embedding environmental justice, climate justice, and equity in all aspects of the role.
- Advance projects and community partnerships that leverage CPP's unique position as a municipal utility to provide cleaner and more affordable energy products and services to Cleveland residents.
- Leverages federal and other grant funding and financial incentives to advance CPP's climate and clean energy goals.
- Researches, creates, and maintains a calendar of relevant Federal and State grant opportunities to support clean energy or DER programs/projects
- Coordinates with outside expertise including from non-profit, trade associations, and philanthropy
- Coordinates and draft grant submissions
- Recruits and evaluates financing clean energy financing options in-line with CPP’s operating posture
- Researches and evaluates best practices to improve grant submission outcomes
- Develop a framework to evaluate existing or new capital project and grant proposals for their clean energy and energy justice attributes
- Assists with the development of capital project proposals that further clean energy and/or energy justice goals
- Ensures compliance with awarded grants
- Delivers regular reports to the Commissioner on in-progress and potential project and grant proposals
- Prepares the Commissioner to deliver relevant testimony to City Council for proposals
- Supports the Commissioner in development of relevant enabling legislation for all proposals
- Organizes and lead, as required, coordination with relevant City Agencies and other governmental entities relevant to proposals
- Assess outputs and impacts of the position to justify permanent funding for the position

Position: Student Worker, Internship, or GA position

This role will help the CSU Division of Continuing and Extended Education define and manage WIOA students including learner support and processes, and works directly with Ohio's WIOA partner, ULA. This is an ongoing position for ALD student (as an internship or a paid student position) or a GA position for ACHE concentration students.
An ALD student in this position overseeing WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) and other workforce-related requirements would gain highly valuable professional experience for future employment. This type of role includes hands-on experience in designing, evaluating, and administering educational programs to meet workforce needs and policy requirements, as well as direct learner support. Most importantly, this work provides an opportunity to contribute to improving workforce training and employment opportunities for adult students with WIOA funding.
