Cleveland State University's Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs has named Joseph D. Roman, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, as the 2011 recipient of the In Tribute to the Public Service Award. The award will be presented during an In Tribute scholarship program on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Hanna Theatre, 2067 East 14th Street. The program begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a cocktail reception at 7 p.m.

"The In Tribute to the Public Service Award honors individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership in public life and contribute significantly to the betterment of the community. Joe Roman personifies what this award is all about," said Edward "Ned" Hill, Ph.D., Dean of the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs. "We are pleased to honor him and his achievements in public service."

As president and CEO of one of the nation's largest metropolitan chambers of commerce, Roman is helping to spur economic vitality in Northeast Ohio. Greater Cleveland Partnership's advocacy efforts to build the most competitive environment for business investment in the Midwest focus on growth business creation, physical development, work force development and education, and business retention, expansion and attraction.

He sits on several boards, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Partners for Livable Communities, the Ohio Business Development Coalition and Positively Cleveland.

Proceeds from In Tribute support scholarships for students attending the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs who aspire to careers in public service.

The In Tribute to the Public Service Award was established in 1985 by the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs's Visiting Committee to honor individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership in public life and contribute significantly to the betterment of the community. Over the past 25 years, the program has honored 30 individuals who have made significant contributions to public service in Greater Cleveland.
