In Tribute Event: Robert Madison
Announcement | Blog | Flyer | Video
Robert P. Madison, a native Clevelander, has played a critical role in our city’s civic life. A true pioneer, he was the first African American to receive an architectural degree in Ohio, and in 1954 founded Robert P. Madison International, the first black owned architectural firm in the Midwest. He brings to his work a natural talent enhanced by graduate degrees from Harvard University and the L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, France.
He has been recognized and honored locally and internationally not only for his talent, but also for his strong ethical standards, commitment to social responsibility, and mentoring of other African-American architects.
He has made as many contributions to greater Cleveland’s physical environment as he has to our civic involvement, serving as the local architect of record of many of our key buildings, such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Cleveland Browns Stadium, and other mega projects. Cleveland State University takes special pride in his Science Research Building, an outstanding example of the international style of architecture and enduring gift to our campus.
This event was held 1/7/15 at The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs Atrium.
