March is celebrated as “Women’s History Month” in the US, the United Kingdom and Australia. Canada celebrates Women during October. The history of Women’s History Month can be traced back to the first “Women’s Day” on February 28, 1909. “International Women’s Day”, on March 8th, has been celebrated throughout the world, for years, and was officially adopted by the United Nations in 1975. In 1987, Congress passed a proclamation establishing March as Women’s History Month.
The Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Dean’s Diversity Council invites you to join us in celebrating Women’s History Month. We have put up posters throughout the College, highlighting notable women. There are multiple pieces with quotes from Shirley Chisholm, Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Sandra Day O’Conner, among others.
We are posting a slide show of "Levin Women" including faculty, staff, advisors, and alumni, featuring their favorite quotes on the College monitors and on our website.
We also urge you to attend the many events that are part of our continuing conversation as a community:
