Workshop Overview
Preparing for Effective Fundraising offers learners an engaging look at fundraising in today's changing landscape. The course explores the key building blocks of a fundraising program, such as trends in philanthropy, donor motivations, your organization's position in the fundraising marketplace, the role of the board, and developing fundraising plans. Participants will also examine their existing donor base to determine if it authentically reflects the target population served by the organization.
By the end of the class, participants will understand how to manage and/or support their organization's fundraising process, how to position their organizations for success with both individual donors and institutional funders like private foundations and corporations and will have begun to build the critical elements of a fund development plan.
Goal
- Outline the fundraising plan (Donor Engagement, Case for Support and Leadership)
- Increase understanding of the mechanics of fundraising
- Build participant capacity to manage / support their organization's fundraising process
- Build relevant work products to assess the diversification of resources and revenue
- Stress importance of the active involvement of the organization's leadership

This workshop is part of the Women's Leadership Series: Women Empowering Women. The series was launched in October of 2018 to engage and empower public & nonprofit sector leaders throughout Northeast Ohio, while promoting the concept of gender representation at all levels of leadership. The theme – "Women Empowering Women" – hones in on the notion that women should support, empower, and mentor one another. The series' programming is strategically designed to capitalize on this theme of empowerment within sectors where political pressures are at play, resources remain tight, and the competition to rise to executive leadership endures.
