Project HEART: Higher Education Advancement of Diverse Teachers
Project HEART 2.0 continues and expands the work and support systems created in Project HEART, a project funded by a 2021 Diversifying the Educator Workforce (DEW) Dean’s Compact Grant. Project HEART 2.0 will increase the number of teachers who are highly qualified and ready to teach in urban schools in Northeast Ohio and across the state. Project HEART 2.0 will continue the collaboration between by Cleveland State University’s Levin College of Public Affairs and Education (CSU LCPAE); the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), the large urban local district; and Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), the local 2-year degree granting institution. As noted in sections below, CSU, CMSD and Tri-C have a long history of partnering on projects that support local youth and the larger Northeast Ohio Community.
Project HEART 2.0 proposes to: 1) recruit a diverse teaching workforce; 2) support cultural competence and self-reflection for teacher education faculty, mentor teachers and teacher candidates; 3) support and retain a diverse teaching workforce; and 4) expand sustainable systems for support and growth that will continue after the Project HEART 2.0 funding ends.
