The Cleveland Stater is a laboratory news site produced by students enrolled in the School of Communication at Cleveland State University in the journalism program's capstone sequence (COM 427, COM 363). The news site is online and on social media.
The Cleveland Stater capstone is a 7-credit sequence taken over two consecutive semesters:
| COM 427 | News Media Lab 1st semester - 3 credits |
| COM 427 | News Media Lab 2nd semester - 3 credits |
| COM 363 | Journalism & Media Laboratory - a 1-credit course taken by COM 427 students in their 2nd semester of the capstone. COM 363 meets at the same time and place as COM 427 |
Students are involved in all aspects of production of The Cleveland Stater, including reporting, editing, photography, video and podcasting, layout, design and marketing.
The School of Communication launched The Cleveland Stater in 1999 as a print newspaper. In fall 2020, The Cleveland Stater transitioned to a digital-only format with a website and presence on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook)
