Urban Network for Innovation in Teacher Education

Why Join Project UNITE?

Project UNITE is an urban teaching residency program. Pre-service or residents are placed in an urban classroom for an entire academic year to observe and learn from an experienced mentor teacher.

Gain a better understanding of the teacher's responsibilities:

With a more consistent and long-term placement, student teachers gain a full understanding of the range of experiences, challenges, and expectations teachers face daily from the beginning to the end of the school year.

Learn from and Learn with your Mentor Teacher:
You will be partnered with an experienced and knowledgeable mentor teacher who is also committed to continual growth and development.  You and your mentor teacher will participate in joint PD sessions (half day) to explore various topics while considering how to apply these ideas in your school and with your students. You will also participate in resident only sessions (half day) to drill down on topics of your choice, share your experiences, and discuss problems of practice.

Other benefits and incentives include:

  • Develop critical teaching skills with an effective teacher mentor.
  • Gain access to a virtual resource center to find strategies and resources to assist in developing lesson plans and expand your knowledge and skills.
