Fall 2023 Course Descriptions

ESE 341/521: Grades K-12 (FULL - WAITLIST ONLY)

Instructor: Dr. Amanda Yurick
When: Mondays from 5:30-6:15 PM, 9/18/23-12/4/23

ESE 341 serves learners in grades K-12 by pairing with tutors in all content areas and learning needs with students who need academic support and are also interested in assessment of learning needs. Our tutors will support tutees with academic needs and also develop a comprehensive academic evaluation to ascertain performance levels and make targeted instructional recommendations. This in-person course will meet in Julka Hall 130 on Mondays from 5:30-6:15 pm. Tutors and tutees will work on academic skills (e.g. literacy, math, content area material) as well as take brief academic assessments for the comprehensive academic evaluation. Please note the starting date of 9/18/23 and ending date of 12/4/23. Please plan to attend every session and notify the center in advance of absence.

EDL 503: Grades K-8 (FULL - WAITLIST ONLY)

Instructor: Dr. Heidi Rock
When: Mondays from 5:00-5:45PM, 9/25/23-11/13/23

EDL 503 serves learners in grades K-8 by pairing with tutors in literacy. This course will meet in-person on Monday from 5 to 5:45. Tutors and tutees will work on identifying literacy strengths and challenges by administering literacy assessments. Please note the starting date of September 25, 2023 and ending date of November 13, 2023. Please plan to attend every session and notify the center in advance of an absence.

ESE 361/510: Grades K-12 

Instructor: Todd Bluffestone
When: Tuesdays from 5:00-5:45PM, 9/26/23-11/28/23

ESE 361/510 serves learners with moderate/intense disabilitiesonly (e.g. autism, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities) in grades K-12 by pairing with tutors in reading, writing and math. This course will meet in person on Tuesdays for 45 minutes. Tutors and tutees will work on assessments and activities essential for learning course objectives and, when possible, student school work. Please note the starting date of 9/26/23 and ending date of 11/28/23. Please plan to attend every session and notify the center in advance of absence.

EDL 311/511: Grades K-5 (FULL - WAITLIST ONLY)

Instructor: Dr. Tyline Hood
When: Mondays 5:30-6:30 PM, 9/25/2023-11/27/2023

EDL 311/511 serves learners in grades K-5 by pairing with tutors in literacy. This remote course will meet via Zoom on Mondays from 5:00-6:00 pm. Tutors and tutees will work on all aspects of literacy: phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing. Please note the starting date of 9/25/2023 and the end date of 11/27/2023 (10 sessions total). Please plan to attend every session and notify the center in advance of absence.
