Summer Programs
The CLC is a year-round instructional facility that provides instructional and assessment support to K-12 learners from the greater Cleveland area by coordinating tutoring experiences with courses and Cleveland State University (CSU) students in the College of Education. The CLC pairs pre-service educators with K-12 learners in both in-person and remote formats that support our community of scholars and provides valuable hands-on practice for future educators.
CSU and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) have a long-standing collaborative relationship to meet the dynamic educational needs of students in Northeast Ohio. In fact, CMSD operates three schools on CSU's campus with CSU faculty serving in residence. All of CSU's teacher preparation programs are clinically-based and each program (early childhood, middle childhood, special education, K-12 foreign language and adolescent/young adult) includes five semesters in school settings; the majority of which occur in CMSD.
Building upon our long-standing and durable relationship around teaching internship experiences, the CLC endeavors to promote an extension of that partnership into after-school tutoring and enrichment opportunities. Specifically, the CLC and CMSD Say Yes schools seek to establish sites external to CSU campus and within the CMSD community.
Goals
- Academic Tutoring: Establish both in-person and remote tutoring programs that pair trained tutors with CMSD students to improve the academic outcomes of K-12 learners and refine the instructional techniques of the CSU tutors.
- Enrichment Opportunities: Establish both in-person and remote enrichment opportunities that pair trained tutors with CMSD students to provide extra-curricular opportunities for K-12 learners that will support secondary and postsecondary outcomes. Opportunities include college/career readiness, social emotional learning support, and family engagement.
