Position: Marketing & Events Summer Intern (paid internship)
Company/Organization: Community West Foundation

Community West Foundation’s mission is to advance the health and well-being of the community. Originally known as the Fairview/Lutheran Foundation, Community West has been supporting these Cleveland Clinic hospitals as well as many community nonprofit agencies through grantmaking since 1997.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Marketing & Events Coordinator with a portfolio of fundraising summer events and campaigns that benefit the hospitals in Cleveland Clinic’s western region, mainly Fairview and Lutheran Hospitals.
  • Support additional Foundation events as needed including but not limited to board functions and annual community update
  • Support all aspects of the events including logistics, food & beverage, staffing, parking, security, etc. and on-site assistance
  • Solicit in-kind donations and sponsorships for events
  • Visit event venues and determine best placement of vendors and layouts
  • Review communications plans and marketing materials to effectively promote the events and campaigns
  • Assist with volunteer committees of hospital staff for each event and communicate progress to them regularly
  • Hold debrief meetings with planning committees to analyze event successes and challenges
  • Support marketing and communications efforts of the Foundation as needed including but not limited to copy writing, content development, web editing, social media strategy development, vendor management
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, opportunities, and best practices in nonprofit marketing and event management and present to team.

Position: Internship for CSU Environmental Studies/Science Student
Company/Organization: Center for IP, Technology and Telecommunications, Inc. – E. 39th Community Garden

CIPTT is a 501 (c)3 public charity that owns and runs an intergenerational garden at E. 39th street and Community College Ave. E. 39th Community Garden grows and distributes free of charge, produce and herbs that help residents manage chronic illness. We hire interns who have special challenges and provide internship and entrepreneurial opportunities in horticulture. We are currently engaged in an ecosystem mapping for a circular economy at the garden to make it self-sustaining, utilizing all plant material. The garden has 12 raised beds and a rain capture system, utilizes solar power, does not use chemical pesticides, and houses a permanent art display that has rotating art exhibits from residents. Residents are also invited to forage edible weeds and herbs.

Qualifications:
Students should have completed at least one year in a major/minor in environmental science with an interest in community gardening and creating a circular economy with composting, and seed extraction of sunflowers. The person needs to be self-motivated, able to work as part of a team, who can manage a 3-person crew to implement the project goals. They also need to understand how to plan and organize a garden operation that is community-driven. Interest in and some experience in gardening or rain distribution is desirable. Technical knowledge in a gravity driven rain capture system is preferred.

Position: Crime Strategies Unit Intern
Company/Organization: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office

Interns will work to support the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Crime Strategies Unit. Projects may include supporting the prosecutor’s security map app program, the “Daily Incidents Analysis Report,” and acting as intelligence support for gang and serial offense cases.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the prosecutor’s office to develop and maintain relationships with law enforcement partners as well as community stakeholders;
  • Assist with data extraction from multiple police records management systems;
  • Read and synthesize police reports to learn about violence occurring in different police jurisdictions;
  • Enter data into CCPO violent crime database;
  • Help to identify possible trends, patterns, and crime series in our database;
  • Clean and manage the data that are stored in violent crime database;
  • Assist with criminal history details of potential prolific offenders that have been identified by detective and prosecutors; 
  • Create maps related to individual cases being handled by the Crime Strategies Unit;
  • Assist with data collection, cleaning, and entry into the CCPO Security Camera Database;
  • Assist in analyzing jail calls, social media postings and phone records;
  • Assist in making connections between seemingly unrelated shootings and crimes.

Position: Major Trial Unit Intern
Company/Organization: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office

Interns will work to support the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Major Trial Unit (MTU). Projects may include assisting in the preparation for trial of homicide and sexual assault cases. In addition, interns will assist in the coordination of a multiple agency review of ongoing homicide and sexual assault investigations. There will also be an opportunity to work on reviewing applications for conviction integrity reviews.

Position: Communications Unit Intern

The Polk County Land Development Division has an excellent opportunity for Urban & Regional Planning Students to gain real world knowledge in the Local Government Land Use Planning operations of Florida's fastest growing county. Position: Service Learning Opportunities
Company/Organization: Cleveland Metroparks

Three openings for a service-learning opportunity will be available during 2024 summer break. No experience is needed and training is provided for those with an interest in exploring the natural resources profession.
These positions provide a variety of hands-on field experiences and develop skills in areas such as invasive plant management, native plants, and green infrastructure maintenance. If comfortable with herbicide application, students are able to become an Ohio Trained Serviceperson in herbicide utilization.

Work Environment

  • The Natural Resources Area Manager-Central will serve as a mentor.
  • Volunteers will report to the West Creek Management Center located at 1969 West Ridgewood Drive, Parma. The center is 0.3 miles from an RTA bus stop on Routes 53-53A.

Position: Broadcasting Internship (Cleveland Conversations)

Classic Teleproductions has partnered with the School of Communication to produce a live to tape program called Cleveland Conversations. This is a half hour program where the host interviews experts on a variety of topics of interest to the greater Cleveland area. Position: Resource Development Intern (Unpaid)

The Metanoia Project is a seasonal emergency shelter serving Cleveland’s most vulnerable unhoused individuals through the winter months. From November through April, we provide overnight respite, a hot meal, medical and substance use services, housing assistance, clothing and hygiene products, and more. As we prepare for our seventeenth season, we are looking to expand our services and add to our team.

  • Develop and maintain donor relationships, expand donor base, and secure donations through outreach.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events with leadership support.
