Meet CPL America Reads Tutor, Hayleigh Mann

Hayleigh Mann

I wanted to become a tutor to be able to help people in my community. I feel I am able help younger people succeed by simplifying big ideas to allow them to comprehend better. I feel like I am able to be a mentor because I am able to help them with whatever they need help with.

CSU students should consider working for the CPL America Reads tutoring program through the Office of Civic Engagement because it offers the perfect balance for students between work and school! Even though I tutor remotely for this program, I feel like the remote tutors and the library staff have become a pretty close group while we work together to help the kids. We have regular students that join our tutoring sessions so we also get to know them well.

One of my favorite tutoring experiences so far is that I have been tutoring youth that recently moved to America and their parents struggle with English. So as a tutor, I was able to help these kids understand their homework and explain difficult concepts to them in different terms.
