What made you want to work as a Viking Corps Tutor?

I first heard about this opportunity from a recruitment email from the Director of the Office of Civic Engagement, Anita Ruf-Young. I was initially interested in this opportunity because I had experience working at a public high school. I specifically chose this site because it was a short commute from campus, making it easier on my schedule.

Are you involved in any clubs or organizations at CSU?

I participate in a variety of clubs including the Bangladeshi Students Organization at CSU (SGA) and Society of Women Engineers (SGA).

Do you have any tutoring experiences you can share from working with your students at Davis A & M?

One of the more memorable stories I can share is working with a specific student. When I was first assigned to him, he was very resistant and uncooperative, but as time passed, I could see him become more and more comfortable. It got to the point where he was excited to come work on assignments. At the end of the semester, he came to thank me for helping him recover his credit allowing him to graduate. That was one of the most rewarding moments for me as a tutor.

Any thoughts on why students should get involved with programs, like Viking Corps, while they are students?

I think regardless of your major, networking and gaining experience is an asset that cannot be taught in a classroom. For me personally, I am honored to help shape students’ futures. I could only imagine having the resources I offer to these high school students when I was where they are at. Any form of expertise you have, will benefit these students greatly.

I encourage CSU students, if you are hesitant to join a new program or try something new, to just try it out.
