Moderate to Intensive Educational Needs (M.Ed.)

At Cleveland State University, our Moderate to Intensive Educational Needs graduate program prepares educators to serve students ages 5–21 with complex learning needs, including intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and multiple developmental disabilities.
This clinically rich, licensure-focused pathway leads to a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and eligibility for Ohio licensure as a Moderate/Intensive Intervention Specialist. Whether you are entering the teaching profession or adding an additional license, this program equips you with the expertise and confidence to make a lasting impact on students, families, and communities.

Program Features
This graduate program is designed to prepare educators who can:
- Assess and support students with intensive learning needs
- Design and implement individualized curriculum and behavior plans

Curriculum Overview
Coursework includes 30+ credit hours in:
- Assessment and instructional strategies for students with moderate to intensive disabilities
- Behavior management and life-skills curriculum planning
- Medical, communication, and transition supports
- Collaboration and partnerships in special education
- Clinical fieldwork: Two supervised internships in moderate/intensive settings
Additional licensure coursework is required for first-time teachers. Students seeking a second license may be eligible for course substitutions pending advisor approval.
