Course Description

School of Communication major or minor, permission of Internship Director. Students will gain experience in the field of communication through a real-world internship. Internships must meet standards for experiential education, including supervision provided by a professional in the student's chosen career field. Students may apply up to 6 credit hours towards graduation (3 credits toward a Communication Major/Minor elective requirement and an additional 3 credits towards the university graduation requirements). Students can enroll in COM 490 in Fall, Spring, and Summer. 

COM 490 Enrollment Process

Step 1: If you do not have a resume or have never prepared a cover letter, we recommend an appointment with CSU Career Development & Exploration. This is a free service available to all students. You can schedule a resume review appointment via Handshake.

Step 2: Review internship postings via Handshake, employer websites, online job search engines, and our internship posting page. 

Step 3: Once you secure an internship, complete the COM 490 Internship Agreement and return it to Dr. Beth Pask, Internship Director, at e.pask@csuohio.edu. Once your completed internship agreement has been received and approved, you will be granted permission to enroll in the course.

Step 4: Register for COM 490 in CampusNet. Select the appropriate number of credit hours. You must work 40 intern hours for every 1 undergraduate credit hour earned. For example, you must work 120 intern hours to earn 3 credits of COM 490.
