Position: Community Impact Intern
Company/Organization: Reclaim Our Wealth (dba Sisters of Economic Action) 

About the Role
Reclaim Our Wealth (dba Sisters of Economic Action) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on community wealth-building on Cleveland's Southeast Side. The intern will support programs, communications, and community development initiatives, gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, fundraising, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support grant and sponsorship proposal drafting and formatting
  • Assist with board and funder communications and materials
  • Help maintain donor/funder databases (e.g., Candid/GuideStar profile) and program records
  • Support outreach related to community initiatives, including the Southeast Side fire station redevelopment project
  • Assist with event coordination and community engagement activities

Position: Marketing Intern

Position Overview: The Marketing Intern will assist the Recreation Department with a multitude of projects that may include web design, graphic design, special event planning/execution, program development, etc. The Marketing Intern(s) are required to utilize general office equipment (copiers, computers, etc.) Microsoft Office products and web/graphic design programs (preferred). The Marketing Intern will predominantly work in an office environment but will spend no less than 25% of his/her time in various recreation spaces or off site at events/member recruitment opportunities.

Position: Recreation Operations Intern

The Recreation Operation Intern will assist the Recreation Department with a multitude of projects that will include assisting in the oversight and management of any/all recreational facilities and operations. The intern will learn day-to-day management of specific areas of city recreational facilities which may include: the Umerley Civic Center, the Hamilton Ice Arena, the Municipal Outdoor Pool and/or the ten city parks. The Recreation Operations Interns(s) are required to utilize general office equipment (copiers, computers, etc.) May be required to learn/operate facility specific equipment (fitness, natatorium, maintenance tools, etc.) The Intern will spend approximately 50% of his/her time in an office setting and the other 50% in the facility/field he/she is focusing on (fitness floor, outdoor field, natatorium, ice rink, etc.).

Position: Fall 2026 Planning Internship
Company/Organization: City of Shaker Heights Planning Department

The Shaker Heights Planning Department is seeking a part-time intern to assist planning staff with ongoing projects and department responsibilities. This is a paid position for Fall 2026; in-person 15-25 hours per week. The position is available for 12 weeks during the fall.

The intern will be involved with a variety of projects and responsibilities at any one time. The internship is designed to provide students with practical, hands-on planning experience with professional planning staff on the implementation of daily planning administration activities as well as current city projects. Interns will observe or participate in a variety of meetings whenever appropriate.

The intern will be involved with several projects and key responsibilities during the internship:

  1. Assisting Department staff with Recreation Strategic Plan implementation, Winslow Road Traffic Calming Design & Engineering, Lee Road Action Plan implementation, and the Lynnfield Station Stabilization project.
  2. Grant research and writing for a variety of grants, including research, documentation, organization, and writing grant applications with a focus on grants for the City’s historic transit stations. There will also be opportunities to participate in grant administration activities.
  3. Assisting Department staff with Landmark Commission meetings and special projects which may include fieldwork and inspections, research and documentation of buildings/sites, and drafting meeting minutes.
  4. Project assistance including community and stakeholder engagement, data collection and organization, including demographic information, traffic calming, grant tracking, photography, GIS work, and administrative support for ongoing projects such the Lee Road Action Plan Implementation, Recreation Strategic Plan Implementation, Lynnfield Station Stabilization, and Public Art.
  5. Research for the Architectural Board of Review and Board of Zoning Appeals including fieldwork, zoning compliance inspections, documentation of buildings/sites, and drafting meeting minutes.
  6. Create graphics, maps, and geospatial data for both illustrative and analysis purposes, including updating the City’s zoning map.

Position: Economic Development Intern
Company/Organization: Old Brooklyn Community Development Corp.

OBCDC is seeking a motivated and community-minded person to serve as Economic Development Intern 
for the fall. This internship offers hands-on experience in data collection, research, market 
analysis, and commercial property assessments within a neighborhood-based nonprofit setting. The 
intern will play a key role in supporting the creation of a retail analysis/market study for Old 
Brooklyn to attract new and existing businesses to the neighborhood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Economic Development Manager and Neighborhood Development Coordinator with 
    neighborhood research, using existing tools within the ecosystem and self-data collection.
  • Conduct in-field commercial corridor surveys, including storefront occupancy, business type and 
    mix, vacancy tracking, and signage and condition assessments.
  • Define and research the neighborhood’s trade area, including demographics, household income, and
    population trends, to understand who the corridor's businesses serve.
  • Help calculate retail demand and spending power within the trade area and compare it to current 
    sales capture to identify retail leakage, categories where local demand isn’t being met by existing 
    businesses.
  • Research comparable retail markets to help benchmark Old Brooklyn’s business mix and inform
    attraction targets.
  • Compile, organize, and update commercial property and business contact records, including using 
    county auditor and open data sources.
  • Help analyze trade area, demographic, or consumer spending data (e.g., via GIS, NEOCANDO, or 
    similar tools) to identify retail gaps and opportunities.
  • Support community engagement surveys to gather feedback on neighborhood needs and desires.
  • Assist with data analysis and help tell the story of Old Brooklyn through summaries, maps, or 
    visualizations for the final market study.
  • Support outreach to business and property owners as part of corridor research.

Position: Communications Unit Intern
Company/Organization: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office

Function: Interns will work physically in the office (no remote work option) to support the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Communications and Public Information Unit. 

Responsibilities:
• Assist the prosecutor’s office to develop, maintain, and update social media presence, relationships with law enforcement partners as well as community stakeholders;

Position: Crime Strategies Unit Intern
Company/Organization: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office

Function: Interns will work physically in the office (no remote option) to support the Cuyahoga County
Prosecutor’s Crime Strategies Unit. Projects may include supporting the prosecutor’s security
map app program, the “Daily Incidents Analysis Report,” and acting as intelligence support for
gang and serial offense cases. 

Responsibilities:
• Assist the prosecutor’s office to develop and maintain relationships with law enforcement
partners as well as community stakeholders;
• Assist with data extraction from multiple police records management systems;
• Read and synthesize police reports to learn about violence occurring in different police
jurisdictions;
• Enter data into CCPO violent crime database;
• Help to identify possible trends, patterns, and crime series in our database;
• Clean and manage the data that are stored in violent crime database;
• Assist with criminal history details of potential prolific offenders that have been identified by detectives and prosecutors;
• Create maps related to individual cases being handled by the Crime Strategies Unit;
• Assist with data collection, cleaning, and entry into the CCPO Security Camera Database;
• Assist in analyzing jail calls, social media postings and phone records;
• Assist in making connections between seemingly unrelated shootings and crimes

Position: Community Development & Strategic Communications Fellow

Working alongside SHDC's communications consultant, the Fellow will:
• Assist with redesigning and maintaining the SHDC website.
• Develop and manage social media content calendars and campaigns.
• Create graphics, photography, short-form videos, and written content.
• Draft newsletters, annual reports, and stakeholder communications.
• Document projects and tell the story of SHDC's impact through digital media and community

District Research & Strategic Planning
The Fellow will support long-term district management initiatives by:
• Researching Special Improvement District (SID) models and best practices from around Ohio and the
country.
• Evaluating funding mechanisms, governance structures, and service delivery approaches.
• Compiling business, property, and demographic information.
• Assisting with stakeholder engagement materials and presentations.
• Supporting district revitalization and strategic planning efforts.
• Conducting research on economic development and redevelopment best practices.

The Dealership Operations & Entrepreneur Support
Working alongside SHDC's Commercial Real Estate & Operations Manager, the Fellow will:
• Serve as a liaison and resource to entrepreneurs, small businesses, and tenants located at The Dealership.
• Assist with onboarding new tenants and maintaining tenant communications.
• Help coordinate day-to-day operational tasks and special projects.
• Develop marketing materials and content promoting The Dealership and its tenants.
• Support leasing and occupancy initiatives.
• Create systems and templates that improve tenant communications and building operations.
• Assist with maintaining a welcoming, collaborative environment for entrepreneurs and visitors.

Events & Community Engagement
The Fellow will help bring SHDC's work to life by:
• Assisting with planning and executing networking events, community meetings, and public programs.
• Coordinating logistics for tenant events and special gatherings at The Dealership.
• Supporting business district events and community engagement activities.
• Capturing photos, videos, and stories from events for use in communications and marketing.
• Engaging with residents, business owners, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders.
• Representing SHDC at meetings and events as appropriate.

Community Development & Organizational Support
The Fellow may also:

Position: Community Building Programs Intern
Company/Organization: Future Heights

Essential Functions
Neighborhood Leadership Workshop Series
● Work with FH staff to plan and implement a series of workshops to train neighborhood leaders.
● Work with the Executive Director to create the agenda, select consultants, and facilitate the sessions.
● Work with the city of Cleveland Heights, neighborhood organizations, and other stakeholders to recruit a cohort of approximately 15 participants each year from across various neighborhoods.
● Conduct outreach to Cleveland Heights’ diverse population groups.
● Provide ongoing support to workshop participants to help them become effective leaders.
● Work with FH staff to submit a final report assessing all aspects of the event including recommendations for future Neighborhood Leadership Workshops.

Neighborhood Mini-Grants Program
● Work with the Executive Director to coordinate the application process, including organizing the grant-making committee that will interview applicants and make funding recommendations.
● Monitor awardees’ progress, facilitate grant fund distribution and reporting, and organize an annual Neighborhood Mini-Grants Celebration Event.
● Submit a final report assessing all aspects of the event including recommendations for the program.

Crowdsourced Conversations
● In collaboration with staff, plan and implement a discussion series on topics selected by the community.
● Work with the city of Cleveland Heights, University Heights, neighborhood organizations, and other stakeholders to survey and recruit participation from diverse groups across various neighborhoods.
● Submit a final report assessing all aspects of the event including recommendations for future crowdsourced conversation events.

Position: Justice System Advocacy Internship
Company/Organization: Journey Center for Safety and Healing

This internship directly assists survivors of domestic violence/intimate partner violence by providing support at Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court to individuals filing for protection orders.

In coordination with a Journey Center staff person, this position will work hands on with petitioners to provide assistance throughout the protection order process. This will include accompanying petitioners to court hearings, providing emotional support, and being on-site as petitioners file for orders and attend follow-up hearings.

Interns in this position will:
- Have the opportunity for hands-on learning about domestic violence/intimate partner violence dynamics, protection orders, and the court process
- Attend court proceedings
- Interact directly with clients

Position: Major Trial Unit Intern
Company/Organization: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office

Function:
Interns will work physically in the office (no remote work option) to support the Cuyahoga
County Prosecutor’s Major Trial Unit (MTU). Projects may include assisting in the preparation
for trial of homicide and sexual assault cases. In addition, interns will assist in the coordination
of a multiple agency review of ongoing homicide and sexual assault investigations. There will

Position: Development Intern - 2 positions
