Position: Community Building Programs Intern

The Community Building Programs intern works with FutureHeights staff to identify and leverage the assets of Cleveland Heights and University Heights by empowering neighborhood leaders to work together to solve problems. Our vision is to create vibrant, resilient neighborhoods through grassroots resident participation in civic life. Drawing on and activating the power of people and the strengths of neighborhoods allows us to be better equipped to tackle problems in our physical and social environment.
Essential Functions
Neighborhood Leadership Workshop Series
- Work with FH staff to plan and implement a series of workshops to train neighborhood leaders.
- Work with the Executive Director to create the agenda, select consultants, and facilitate the sessions.
- Work with the city of Cleveland Heights, neighborhood organizations, and other stakeholders to recruit a cohort of approximately 15 participants each year from across various neighborhoods.
- Conduct outreach to Cleveland Heights’ diverse population groups.
- Provide ongoing support to workshop participants to help them become effective leaders.
- Work with FH staff to submit a final report assessing all aspects of the event including recommendations for future Neighborhood Leadership Workshops.
Neighborhood Mini-Grants Program
- Work with the Executive Director to coordinate the application process, including organizing the grant-making committee that will interview applicants and make funding recommendations.
- Monitor awardees’ progress, facilitate grant fund distribution and reporting, and organize an annual Neighborhood Mini-Grants Celebration Event.
- Submit a final report assessing all aspects of the event including recommendations for the program.
Crowdsourced Conversations
- In collaboration with staff, plan and implement a discussion series on topics selected by the community.
- Work with the city of Cleveland Heights, University Heights, neighborhood organizations, and other stakeholders to survey and recruit participation from diverse groups across various neighborhoods.
- Submit a final report assessing all aspects of the event including recommendations for future crowdsourced conversation events.

Position: Conservation Stewardship Intern

Position: Planning Internship Opportunity

- Project Title: Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum Collection Intern
Location: Cleveland History Center of the Western Reserve Historical Society
CHC Department: Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum (CAAM)
Project Description: This position will work directly under the CAAM Curator and in coordination with the CAAM Assistant Curator. There are approximately 180 vehicles in the Crawford Auto-Aviation Collection, from cars to motorcycles to aircraft. Condition reporting is an important task in prioritizing care and use for display/exhibits. The CAAM also has decades of paper-based documentation related to artifact acquisition, promotion and technical information that require organization.
- Project Title: Curatorial & Collections Intern

Project Description: The Curatorial & Collections Intern will work with the Chief Curator and Collections Manager on curatorial projects at the Cleveland History Center. Position: Crime Strategies Unit Intern
Company/Organization: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Major Trial Unit
Interns will work physically in the office (no remote option) to support the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Crime Strategies Unit. Projects may include supporting the prosecutor’s security map app program, the “Daily Incidents Analysis Report,” and acting as intelligence support for gang and serial offense cases.
Responsibilities
- Assist the prosecutor’s office to develop and maintain relationships with law enforcement partners as well as community stakeholders;
- Assist with data extraction from multiple police records management systems;
- Read and synthesize police reports to learn about violence occurring in different police jurisdictions;
- Enter data into CCPO violent crime database;
- Help to identify possible trends, patterns, and crime series in our database;
- Clean and manage the data that are stored in violent crime database;
- Assist with criminal history details of potential prolific offenders that have been identified by detective and prosecutors;
- Create maps related to individual cases being handled by the Crime Strategies Unit;

Position: 2025 Service-Learning Volunteer Position
Company/Organization: Cleveland Metroparks
Two openings for service-learning opportunities will be available during the 2025 summer break. No experience is needed, and training is provided for those with an interest in exploring the natural resources profession.
These unpaid positions provide a variety of hands-on field experiences and develop skills in areas such as invasive plant management, native plants, and green infrastructure maintenance. If comfortable with herbicide application, students are able to become an Ohio Trained Serviceperson in herbicide utilization.
