Position: Communications Unit Intern
Company/Organization: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office

Function: Interns will work physically in the office (no remote work option) to support the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Communications and Public Information Unit. 

Responsibilities:
• Assist the prosecutor’s office to develop, maintain, and update social media presence, relationships with law enforcement partners as well as community stakeholders;
• Assist with planning, writing, and managing the prosecutor’s office newsletter and annual report;
• Draft, distribute, and pitch news releases, media alerts, and other stories;
• Update CCPO website when needed;
• Organize and attend meetings with CCPO staff, community stakeholders including but not limited to taking minutes and preparing agendas;
• Assist with logging in and coordinating public records requests;
• Reach out to community organizations and the general public concerning CCPO business and news alerts;
• Other duties as assigned.

Position: Crime Strategies Unit Intern
Company/Organization: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office

Function: Interns will work physically in the office (no remote option) to support the Cuyahoga County
Prosecutor’s Crime Strategies Unit. Projects may include supporting the prosecutor’s security
map app program, the “Daily Incidents Analysis Report,” and acting as intelligence support for
gang and serial offense cases. 

Responsibilities:
• Assist the prosecutor’s office to develop and maintain relationships with law enforcement
partners as well as community stakeholders;
• Assist with data extraction from multiple police records management systems;
• Read and synthesize police reports to learn about violence occurring in different police
jurisdictions;
• Enter data into CCPO violent crime database;
• Help to identify possible trends, patterns, and crime series in our database;
• Clean and manage the data that are stored in violent crime database;
• Assist with criminal history details of potential prolific offenders that have been identified by detectives and prosecutors;
• Create maps related to individual cases being handled by the Crime Strategies Unit;
• Assist with data collection, cleaning, and entry into the CCPO Security Camera Database;
• Assist in analyzing jail calls, social media postings and phone records;
• Assist in making connections between seemingly unrelated shootings and crimes

Position: Community Development & Strategic Communications Fellow
Company/Organization: Shaker Heights Development Corporation (SHDC)

Responsibilities
Communications & Digital Strategy
Working alongside SHDC's communications consultant, the Fellow will:
• Assist with redesigning and maintaining the SHDC website.
• Develop and manage social media content calendars and campaigns.
• Create graphics, photography, short-form videos, and written content.
• Draft newsletters, annual reports, and stakeholder communications.
• Document projects and tell the story of SHDC's impact through digital media and community
storytelling.

District Research & Strategic Planning
The Fellow will support long-term district management initiatives by:
• Researching Special Improvement District (SID) models and best practices from around Ohio and the
country.
• Evaluating funding mechanisms, governance structures, and service delivery approaches.
• Compiling business, property, and demographic information.
• Assisting with stakeholder engagement materials and presentations.
• Supporting district revitalization and strategic planning efforts.
• Conducting research on economic development and redevelopment best practices.

The Dealership Operations & Entrepreneur Support
Working alongside SHDC's Commercial Real Estate & Operations Manager, the Fellow will:
• Serve as a liaison and resource to entrepreneurs, small businesses, and tenants located at The Dealership.
• Assist with onboarding new tenants and maintaining tenant communications.
• Help coordinate day-to-day operational tasks and special projects.
• Develop marketing materials and content promoting The Dealership and its tenants.
• Support leasing and occupancy initiatives.
• Create systems and templates that improve tenant communications and building operations.
• Assist with maintaining a welcoming, collaborative environment for entrepreneurs and visitors.

Events & Community Engagement
The Fellow will help bring SHDC's work to life by:
• Assisting with planning and executing networking events, community meetings, and public programs.
• Coordinating logistics for tenant events and special gatherings at The Dealership.
• Supporting business district events and community engagement activities.
• Capturing photos, videos, and stories from events for use in communications and marketing.
• Engaging with residents, business owners, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders.
• Representing SHDC at meetings and events as appropriate.

Community Development & Organizational Support
The Fellow may also:
• Assist with grant and funding initiatives.
• Attend board meetings, public meetings, and community events.
• Participate in project site visits and redevelopment discussions.
• Support board presentations and strategic initiatives.
• Coordinate special projects and follow-up tasks across multiple initiatives.
• Gain exposure to nonprofit leadership, public-private partnerships, commercial real estate, and community development.

Position: Community Building Programs Intern
Company/Organization: Future Heights

Essential Functions
Neighborhood Leadership Workshop Series
● Work with FH staff to plan and implement a series of workshops to train neighborhood leaders.
● Work with the Executive Director to create the agenda, select consultants, and facilitate the sessions.
● Work with the city of Cleveland Heights, neighborhood organizations, and other stakeholders to recruit a cohort of approximately 15 participants each year from across various neighborhoods.
● Conduct outreach to Cleveland Heights’ diverse population groups.
● Provide ongoing support to workshop participants to help them become effective leaders.
● Work with FH staff to submit a final report assessing all aspects of the event including recommendations for future Neighborhood Leadership Workshops.

Neighborhood Mini-Grants Program
● Work with the Executive Director to coordinate the application process, including organizing the grant-making committee that will interview applicants and make funding recommendations.
● Monitor awardees’ progress, facilitate grant fund distribution and reporting, and organize an annual Neighborhood Mini-Grants Celebration Event.
● Submit a final report assessing all aspects of the event including recommendations for the program.

Crowdsourced Conversations
● In collaboration with staff, plan and implement a discussion series on topics selected by the community.
● Work with the city of Cleveland Heights, University Heights, neighborhood organizations, and other stakeholders to survey and recruit participation from diverse groups across various neighborhoods.
● Submit a final report assessing all aspects of the event including recommendations for future crowdsourced conversation events.

Position: Justice System Advocacy Internship
Company/Organization: Journey Center for Safety and Healing

This internship directly assists survivors of domestic violence/intimate partner violence by providing support at Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court to individuals filing for protection orders.

In coordination with a Journey Center staff person, this position will work hands on with petitioners to provide assistance throughout the protection order process. This will include accompanying petitioners to court hearings, providing emotional support, and being on-site as petitioners file for orders and attend follow-up hearings.

Interns in this position will:
- Have the opportunity for hands-on learning about domestic violence/intimate partner violence dynamics, protection orders, and the court process
- Attend court proceedings
- Interact directly with clients

Position: Major Trial Unit Intern
Company/Organization: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office

Function:
Interns will work physically in the office (no remote work option) to support the Cuyahoga
County Prosecutor’s Major Trial Unit (MTU). Projects may include assisting in the preparation
for trial of homicide and sexual assault cases. In addition, interns will assist in the coordination
of a multiple agency review of ongoing homicide and sexual assault investigations. There will
also be an opportunity to work on reviewing applications for conviction integrity reviews.

Responsibilities:
• Assist the prosecutor’s office in reviewing ongoing homicide, sexual assault, and
conviction integrity investigations;
• Assist with communicating with multiple law enforcement agencies;
• Read and synthesize police reports;
• Assist trial attorneys by creating written transcripts of audio and video recordings;
• Provided trial support to MTU trial attorneys;
• Provide support during meetings and review sessions;
• Assist with criminal history details of defendants and other persons of interest;
• Assist in analyzing jail calls, social media postings and phone records;

Position: Development Intern - 2 positions
Company/Organization: McCall Consulting & Associates Incorporated

Responsibilities

The applicant will assist the organization with community outreach, building community partnerships, and identifying resources needed to meet program objectives. The applicant will serve as a liaison among partner agencies, the organization, and program participants. The applicant will also help create and maintain a volunteer database to support recruitment, retention, and recognition. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and requires attendance at staff and program site meetings.
