The City of University Heights is a diverse and inclusive first ring suburb of approximately 13,000 residents, located four miles from the eastern border of Cleveland. University Heights is a residential community with gateway business districts, and is home to John Carroll University.

THE MAYORAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:
The University Heights Mayoral Internship Program offers college students unique experiential learning opportunities in local government. Selected participants will work closely with the Mayor and Department Directors. Placement will be based on a number of factors, including the student's interests, experience, and skills, as well as the City's needs. Prospective mayoral interns will be high school graduates currently enrolled in a four-year college or university as undergraduate or graduate students.

Position: Communications Intern

Position: Volunteer Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage and Oversee the Volunteer Program

  • Follow the Volunteer Handbook policies and procedures
  • Develop recruiting strategies to effectively attract volunteers
  • Assess need for volunteers to enhance program/service delivery with other staff members
  • Develop and administer forms and records to document volunteer activities

Position: Lakewood City Council Intern

Lakewood City Council is seeking a highly motivated college student with an interest in government, public policy, and public service for a paid part-time internship opportunity.

Typical Duties Include:

  • Meeting and agenda preparation
  • Manage audio/visual duties of Council meetings

Position: Lifeline Food Pantry Intern

Position: Broadcasting Internship (Cleveland Conversations)
Company/Organization: Classic Teleproductions

Classic Teleproductions has partnered with the School of Communication to produce a live to tape program called Cleveland Conversations. This is a half hour program where the host interviews experts on a variety of topics of interest to the greater Cleveland area. We have recorded over a dozen programs to date, with guests including CSU President Laura Bloomberg, Tri-C President Michael Baston, Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, MetroParks CEO Brian Zimmerman, and numerous CSU faculty.

Student interns will have the opportunity to complete a variety of tasks such as:

  • Setting up and running cameras and production equipment for live Cleveland Conversations
  • Supporting program preparation through research and creation of interview guides
  • Creating clips for use to promote our program on Instagram and other social media
  • Helping with developing and enacting social media strategies for distribution of the program
  • Tracking media analytics of viewership

Position: Resource Development Intern (Unpaid)
Company/Organization: The Metanoia Project

The Metanoia Project is a seasonal emergency shelter serving Cleveland’s most vulnerable unhoused individuals through the winter months. From November through April, we provide overnight respite, a hot meal, medical and substance use services, housing assistance, clothing and hygiene products, and more. As we prepare for our seventeenth season, we are looking to expand our services and add to our team.
