Meet CPL America Reads Tutor, Josie Edwards

I wanted to work with children from several ages and cultural backgrounds and gain experience as a tutor. I am gaining patience when working with children and I feel as though I am a mentor for these students. Also, I learned how to switch my approach when teaching students. Sometimes students don’t have anyone to help them through school and to encourage them, so I like to think that I can do that for them.

I had one student whom I helped over the semester with math. As time went on, she got more comfortable with doing her homework on her own and would only ask questions if she needed help. One day, she joined our remote tutoring session and told me about the test that she had. She was confident in her work and got a really good grade! She was so excited to tell me about it and it felt good to hear that she was becoming more confident in herself and her work!
