Meet Past CPL America Reads Tutor, Julie Cutcher

“It’s great to get involved in a job like this one if you’re thinking about becoming a teacher or working with children in any way. I would highly recommend any Education majors to take advantage of it!”

Julie is an Early Childhood Education major at CSU.

What made you want to work as a CPL America Reads tutor with the OCE?

I wanted to gain experience working with children in the age groups I will be teaching in the future. Tutoring at the Glenville and Woodland CPL branches, I gained that experience! I got to experiment with different ways of explaining certain topics and was able to create fun games and tactics to keep them involved and interested in learning.

What made you return to the CPL America Reads program?

I worked Spring 2023 but could not return for Fall 2023 due to my class schedule. I contacted Anita and Gabi because I needed volunteer hours for a Service-Learning course I was taking and thankfully they were able to set me up to tutor at the CPL Woodland Branch!
“I feel that I play a crucial role as a mentor while I am tutoring students. We have developed a bond where they feel comfortable enough around me to not only have fun and act silly, but to also ask questions and for explanations when they are confused about something we’re working on.”
