Fellowship Program

About the program
The Cleveland Teaching Fellowship (CTF) is a partnership between the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and Cleveland State University. This grant program engages highly qualified teacher candidates in PAID practicum and student teaching expereinces in select CMSD buildings. With a national teacher shortage, CTF is creating a diverse pipeline of strong teacher candidates committed to urban education. *Funding is pending annual approval.
CTF supports Fellows during their final year experiences. This program does not replace Internship I/II, Apprentice Teaching I/II, practicum/student taching, but rather provides additional supports (i.e., professional development, engagement in schools, financial stipends,e tc.) through their urban placements. Eligible Applicants must be in a licensure program in the Levin College of Public Affairs and Education and meet all academic and non-academic requirements for their final year experiences (i.e. practicum/student teaching, internship and/or apprentice teaching) in the selected academic year. Applicants must also be US citizens or permanent residents, and have a commitment to urban education.
Qualifications:
- Declared undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate major/license within the Levin College of Public
- Affairs and Education in Special Education (Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Intensive), DREAM, Middle
- Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Young Adult (Mathematics, Science, Language
- Arts, Social Studies), World Language (French, Mandarin, Spanish), Music, or Speech Language Pathology
- Meet all academic and non-academic requirements necessary for fall or spring experience including but not limited to
- GPA requirements, program requirements, Pre-Service Teacher Permit, disposition, etc.
- US citizen or permanent resident
- Commitment to urban education
- Good academic standing
Fellows will:
- Commit to one academic year in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Placements may be year-long or split between two schools, depending on licensure requirements. These experiences include 180 hours for practicum and 450 hours for student teaching.
- Participate in professional development sessions and program meetings
- Create deeper relationships with students, teachers, and administration beyond traditional experiences
- Be involved outside of the classroom, including building PD sessions, extracurricular activities, student groups, etc.
- Opportunity to participate in Shadow Days within CMSD and outside districts
- Receive up to $10,000 over the academic year, potentially eliminating need for outside employment
Application process - Pending Annual Grant Approval
The Cleveland Teaching Fellowship is available to interns completing a final year experience in Fall and/or Spring. Interns will be notified about the following process:
- Part 1: Complete a Fellowship Application and submit follow-up documentation (resume + written answer).
- Part 2: Submit Letter of Recommendation or Survey
- Part 3: Applicants will be invited to an interview
