Fellowship Program
The application for the 2026-2027 Cleveland Teaching Fellowship and the Nord Teaching Fellowship are Open. The deadline is April 13, 2026, 11:59pm.
About the programs
The Cleveland Teaching Fellowship (CTF) is a partnership between the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and Cleveland State University. This grant program engages highly qualified teacher candidates in PAID practicum and student teaching experiences in select CMSD schools. This national award winning program has supported over 300 Fellows supported during their final year field experiences.
The Nord Teaching Fellowship (NTF) is a partnership between the Nord Family Foundation and Cleveland State University. This grant program engages highly qualified teacher candidates in PAID practicum and student teaching experiences in Lorain County School Districts.
With a national teacher shortage, CTF and NTF are creating a diverse pipeline of strong teacher candidates committed to urban education. The Teaching Fellowships support Interns during their final year experiences. The programs do not replace Internship I/II, Apprentice Teaching I/II, practicum/student teaching, but rather provide additional supports (i.e., professional development, engagement in schools, financial stipends, etc.) through their urban placements. Eligible Applicants must be in a licensure program in the Levin College of Public Affairs and Education and meet all academic and non-academic requirements for their final year experiences (i.e. practicum/student teaching, internship and/or apprentice teaching) in the selected academic year. Applicants must also be US citizens or permanent residents, and have a commitment to urban education.
Qualifications:
- Declared undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate major/license within the Levin College of Public
- Affairs and Education in Special Education (Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Intensive), DREAM, Middle

Fellows will:
- Commit to one academic year in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Placements may be year-long or split between two schools, depending on licensure requirements. These experiences include 180 hours for practicum and 450 hours for student teaching.
- Participate in professional development
- Create deeper relationships with students, teachers, and administration beyond traditional experiences
- Be involved outside of the classroom, including building PD sessions, extracurricular activities, student groups, etc.
- Receive stipend over the course of the academic year, potentially minimizing need for outside employment. The stipend ranges from $8,000 to $10,000 for the full academic year, depending on annual funding.
Application process:
Applications are open now through April 13, 2026. Recommendation Surveys deadline is April 20, 2026. See application for details.
Fellowships are open to all Interns who are eligible for a final year experience in 2026-2027. These programs work in conjunction with your field placement. Applicants are welcome to apply to both.
